A typical sign of ageing skin is the appearance of wrinkles on the face. This is something that tends to happen naturally as we get older, and is compounded by other factors, such as the forces of gravity, constant movement of facial muscles, and pressure on the skin of the face (e.g. when sleeping).

Botulife Cream, containing hexapeptide-3, offers a solution to the development of wrinkles, regardless of how they are caused. The molecular mechanism involved in skin ageing is directly connected to changes to the structure of the triple helix present in collagen, to polypeptides breaking down in elastene and to a disturbance in the skin’s lipidic matrix.

It has recently been shown that these structural and lipidic changes can be avoided by modifying the SNARE complex (SNAp Receptor), a ternary complex formed by the VAMP protein, syntaxin and SNAP-25 (Synaptosial Associated Protein), which intervenes in the process of docking, fusion and exocytosis of the neurotransmitter-carrying vesicles.

When the SNARE complex is slightly destabilized, the vesicles cannot dock and release the neurotransmitters effectively and so the muscles (that usually contract when they receive neurotransmitters released by the vesicles) ease their contractions, thus preventing the creation of wrinkles. It has also been shown that overproduction of catecholamines (that also cause wrinkles and expression lines) can be avoided by means of synthetic short-chain peptides.

Taking these ideas into consideration, we have produced a formula to prevent the signs of aging appearing on the face. This provides the skin with a hexapeptide analogous to the terminal N of the SNAP-25 protein, which helps in modifying the SNARE complex.

Applied to the skin, hexapeptide-3 has a double effect:

• It reduces the depth of facial wrinkles caused by the contraction of muscles involved in generating facial expressions, particularly on the forehead and around the eyes.
• It prevents skin ageing caused by repeated facial movement and the overproduction of catecholamines.
